                             READING RECOVERY TEACHER

                                                10 MONTHS

 

                                                                       

 

 EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE

·        Masters degree in early childhood education or reading and meets certification requirements as established by the Maryland State Department of Education.

·        Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.

·        Experience in organizing and conducting staff development.

·        Evidence of ability to provide leadership in reading.

·        Evidence of the ability to work effectively with students, parents, community support groups and staff.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

·        Completes Reading Recovery Program.

·        Completes Reading Recovery field work.

·        Works individually with Reading Recovery students according to program guidelines.

·        Collects and maintains data on children in accordance with guidelines for evaluation.

·        Instructs 10 – 12 new Reading Recovery teachers (year 2).

·        Guides testing and selection of children using program guidelines.

·        Visits and monitors Reading Recovery teachers (year 2).

·        Makes presentations on program to interested groups.

·        Conducts in-service sessions for schools.

·        Attends an approved Reading Recovery conference.

·        Attends Teacher Leader Institute.

·        Agrees to follow rules and policies set forth by Reading Recovery Council of North America.

·        Agrees to complete the one year Reading Recovery training.

·        Agrees to a 5-year commitment to a Reading Recovery program in the Charles County Public Schools.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (life, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
