READING RESOURCE TEACHER

ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL

EDUCATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATION

 

·        Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.

·        Master’s Degree in Reading or appropriate field and/or Advanced Professional Certificate.

·        Knowledge of Best Practices in Teaching, Reading and appropriate instructional methodologies.

·        Evidence of exemplary interpersonal skills.

·        Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills.

·        Evidence of ability to work effectively with staff.           

                        

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

                                                                                                              

  • Serves as a liaison between the Division of Instruction and individual schools.
  • Works with Principal to coordinate the Reading Program at the school level.
  • Serves as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Meets with Division of Instruction Staff to receive updates on the most current information regarding accountability, content-related information, instructional methodology, and best practices.
  • Attends monthly role-alike meetings to discuss county and school-related instructional topics.
  • Coordinates and monitors the total reading/literacy program for the school.
  • Collects, records, and monitors individual reading levels for all students.
  • Examines data and works with teachers and administrators with regards to the placement of students in the Language Arts/Reading Program.
  • Trains teachers in the administration and scoring of assessments and analysis of data in order to improve instruction in the classroom and identify students in need of intervention.
  • Works with groups of students as needed to provide identified interventions.  
  • Plans and delivers staff development at the school level.
  • Provides multiple opportunities for embedded staff development throughout the school year.
  • Visits classrooms on a daily basis to provide instructional feedback to teachers.
  • Co-teaches and/or models reading lessons.
  • Participates in content planning meetings to assist teachers with incorporating reading strategies in the classroom.
  • Participates in the School Improvement Planning Process and assists in monitoring the implementation of the plan.
  • Mentors new teachers to assist with their transition into the classroom.
  • Creates a resource-rich environment for teacher access, including teacher materials, professional resources, and knowledge/expertise in reading.
  • Identifies students for participation in the Extended Day Program and Summer Math and Reading Academy. 
  • Assists with curriculum development/revision at the county level.

·        Conducts county-wide staff development as required by the Division of Instruction.       

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
