Position to Support Students with Disabilities

EDUCATION,
QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Masters degree or Advanced Professional
Certificate in Special Education or Dual Certification preferred.
- Minimum of five years of excellent teaching
experience.
- Knowledge and training on best practices in
working with students with disabilities, including co-teaching,
differentiation and Response to Intervention preferred.
- Experience teaching students with
disabilities
- Evidence of appropriate implementation of
the IEP to include IEP formation, monitoring of implementation and
reporting of student progress.
- Evidence of leadership qualities to include
effective communication and human relations skills.
- Ability to plan and implement professional
development for special education teachers in the areas of writing
standards-based IEPs, progress monitoring of IEP
goals and objectives, and implementation of interventions for students
with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates special education services at
assigned site.
- Collaborates with teachers to meet the
needs of students with disabilities
- Works with students with disabilities in
instructional settings when appropriate.
- Uses technology to gather and organize
response to intervention data in order to monitor the achievement of
students with disabilities and students at risk for special education
services.
- Develops and assists in the implementation
of curriculum and interventions for students with disabilities.
- Serves as a member of the school
instructional leadership team and an advocate for students with
disabilities.
- Designs and implements staff development
that supports the school improvement plan and aligns with best practices
in special education.
- Communicates with parents on system
initiatives in special education and related school activities.
- Assists with preparation of extended
learning opportunities.
- Attends scheduled meetings and trainings
for special education resource teachers.
- Participates
in job related professional development opportunities.
ENVIRONMENTAL
FACTORS & PHYSCIAL REQUIRMENTS
The environmental factors and/or physical
requirements of this position include the following: while performing the duties of this job, the
employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit
other locations, and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and
manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 – 50 pounds. Duties also require good hand-eye
coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and
visual acuity to use a keyboard. The
employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and
hear.
